Dear @Tr Hnin,
Good day, and thank you for the clear explanation of your concern.
From my research, the previously visible Insights data is very likely not permanently lost. Education Insights data is tied to the class team and student activity during the period when students were members. Removing students from a class does not delete the underlying historical data. Unlike disabling Insights at the tenant level which does permanently remove data, temporary roster changes usually only cause the data to be hidden or delayed until synchronization completes.
In most cases, activity data is retained in the Microsoft 365 backend for a defined retention period, even if students are temporarily removed from the class. As a result, the data is rarely deleted immediately.
1.Allow time for data to reappear
Please wait 24-48 hours after re‑adding the students. It can take this amount of time for the Insights dashboard to re‑aggregate and display historical data once students are re‑enrolled.
2.Refresh and restart Microsoft Teams
- Refresh the Insights tab (or the entire page).
- Sign out of Teams completely, close the app, then sign back in.
- Try accessing Insights from both the desktop app and the web version, as behavior may differ.
3.Check filters and time range in Insights
- Go to the Insights tab and open Digital activity or other relevant reports.
- Use the Student filter to search by name.
- Adjust the time range (Custom range) and scroll back as far as the class creation date (up to one year, if applicable).
If the data still does not appear after 48 hours, contact your school or IT administrator. They can:
- Confirm that Education Insights is enabled for the tenant
- Check backend synchronization status
Administrators can also review related activity data through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center by navigating to:
Reports > Usage > Microsoft Teams > User activity
This report provides a high‑level view of student engagement (such as messages sent and meetings attended) that is independent of specific class team membership history.
Education Insights data is designed to persist for reporting purposes, and many educators have experienced the same behavior after roster changes, with data reappearing once synchronization completes.
I hope this information helps clarify the situation and provides a clear path forward. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to help. Have a wonderful day!
