To join and complete a Microsoft Learn Challenge and use achievements as a guide, follow these steps:
- Create and sign in to a Microsoft Learn profile
- Go to any Microsoft Learn page and select Sign in (top right).
- Sign in with a Microsoft account and complete profile setup.
- A Learn profile is required for:
- Progress tracking
- Earning EXP and achievements
- Participating in challenges
- Registering for certification exams
- Join a Microsoft Learn Challenge
- Go to the Microsoft Credentials AI Challenge or other active challenge page (for example: Microsoft Credentials AI Challenge).
- Select Join the Challenge.
- Joining uses the signed-in Microsoft Learn profile.
- Understand challenge stages and progress
- Each Challenge is a collection of Microsoft Learn modules and/or learning paths.
- The “where you stand” section shows progress as a fraction (for example,
1/8, 2/20).
- When the fraction reaches 100% (for example,
8/8 or 20/20), the Challenge is complete.
- Modules completed before the Challenge started still count, as long as they are part of that Challenge collection.
- Work through levels/modules as a learning guide
- Use the Challenge collection as the step‑by‑step guide:
- Open the Challenge page.
- Start with the first module/learning path listed.
- Complete each module in order; Microsoft Learn tracks completion automatically when signed in.
- Different “stages” or “levels” are simply the ordered modules and learning paths in the collection; completing each one advances progress.
- Use achievements as guidance
- As modules, learning paths, and Challenges are completed, achievements and EXP are added to the Learn profile.
- Achievements help understand what has already been learned and what is left:
- Check the profile’s Achievements and Credentials areas to see completed modules, learning paths, and any certifications.
- Use missing achievements in a Challenge collection as a checklist for what to do next.
- Check badges and Challenge completion
- When a Challenge is completed, a badge becomes available in the Microsoft Learn profile under Challenges and/or Achievements.
- If the leaderboard or progress does not match completed work:
- Ensure being signed in while learning.
- Wait a few hours; the leaderboard and “where you stand” can take time to refresh.
- Plan learning beyond a single Challenge
- To build skills systematically:
- Identify the desired role and level (Fundamentals, Associate, Expert).
- Use role-based learning paths and certifications as the long‑term guide.
- Combine:
- Free, browser-based tutorials and modular learning paths
- Hands-on labs and, when needed, instructor-led training
This approach uses Challenges as structured checklists, Learn profile achievements as progress markers, and role-based paths as the long‑term roadmap.
