A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Recovery of a Rockstar account itself is outside the provided information. The available guidance only covers Microsoft work/school accounts and Microsoft Authenticator.
If the lost 2FA is specifically for a Microsoft work or school account protected by Microsoft Authenticator (and that account is then used to sign in to Rockstar), use these supported options:
- If there is still another way to sign in (backup phone/email)
- Go to the Security info / Advanced security options page for the work or school account and sign in using a method that still works.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify and add a new phone, email, or other method.
- After verifying the new method, remove the old method that is no longer accessible.
- Avoid changing all security info at once, otherwise the account may be restricted for 30 days.
- "I've lost access to my security info" – instructions for when some security info still works.
- If all security info for the Microsoft work/school account is lost but the password is known
- Start signing in to the work or school account.
- At the Verify your identity prompt, select I don't have any of these.
- Follow the prompts to replace the security info.
- After replacement, sign-in will be blocked for 30 days while the change completes. If the old security info is found during that period, it can still be used to sign in, which cancels the pending change.
- If the password for the Microsoft account is also forgotten and no security info is accessible
- Use the account recovery form described in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
- Submit the recovery request at the provided Recover account link.
- If this is a work or school account protected by Azure Multi-Factor Authentication and the phone was lost/changed
- Another cloud services admin must reset the MFA settings:
- Sign in to the cloud service portal as an admin.
- Go to the Multi-Factor Authentication user management page.
- Select the affected user.
- Choose Manage user settings and select Require selected users to provide contact methods again, then save.
- If this is the only admin account and it is locked, Microsoft Data Protection team involvement is required via a support ticket raised from another tenant or via the regional support hotline, as described in the Q&A guidance.
- Another cloud services admin must reset the MFA settings:
- If the mobile device with Microsoft Authenticator was lost or stolen
- Sign in using a different method if available, or
- Ask the organization’s Help desk to clear the MFA settings so registration can be done again at next sign-in.
If none of the above apply because the problem is only with a non-Microsoft service (Rockstar) and not with a Microsoft account or Microsoft Authenticator, recovery must be done through that service’s own support and account recovery process.
