A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
The tenant is in an inactive, blocked state and must be reactivated by Microsoft within the allowed window.
Key points from the tenant lifecycle behavior:
- Error
AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivityis expected when a tenant is made inaccessible due to inactivity. - Administrators can request reactivation only within 20 days of the tenant entering the inactive state.
- After the tenant has been in this inaccessible state for more than 20 days, it is deleted and not recoverable.
Best way to re-enable the deactivated tenant (if within 20 days):
- Ensure a Global Administrator for the tenant is making the request.
- Contact Microsoft support directly:
- Use the published global support phone numbers to open a support case and request tenant reactivation.
- After opening the case:
- Do not submit additional assistance requests for the same tenant while the case is in progress.
- Wait for Microsoft’s decision and follow any instructions provided by support.
If the tenant has been blocked for more than 20 days:
- The tenant is deleted and cannot be restored.
- Review Microsoft’s data protection policies to understand data handling and retention.
If access to the original tenant cannot be restored and a new environment is needed:
- Create a new tenant (for example, via Microsoft Entra admin center) and configure it as required.
