Hi, I can't add any of my accounts (3, 2 work/1 personal) to the Outlook iOS app. I've tried redownloading/clearing caches for app but nothing is working. I am able to log in on mobile browser, laptop browser & laptop app for all accounts.

The error msg is "Can't add account The account cannot be added right now. Please try again later."

    Hey there,

It is pretty strange that both your work and personal accounts are throwing that same error at the exact same time on the mobile app. Since web and laptop logins work fine, it feels like something specific on your iPhone's connection is blocking the authentication.

    • Are you running any VPN apps, adblockers, or custom DNS profiles on your phone right now?
    • Also does it give you the exact same error if you turn off Wi-Fi entirely and try signing in over pure cellular data?

Let me know so we can narrow this down.

The error indicates Outlook for iOS cannot complete account setup, even though sign-in works elsewhere. Use these steps to re-add the accounts cleanly and work around common mobile issues:

    1. Confirm sign-in works in a browser on the same iPhone
      • Open Safari/Chrome on the iPhone and sign in to each account (both work and personal) to confirm credentials and any MFA prompts work on the device itself.
    2. Remove any partially added accounts in Outlook for iOS
      • Open the Outlook app.
      • Go to Settings > Accounts.
      • Remove any accounts that show as added or partially added.
      • Force-close Outlook and reopen it.
    3. Add the personal Outlook.com/Microsoft account again
      • In Outlook for iOS, tap Inbox (or Get Started if first run).
      • Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Email Account.
      • Enter the personal email address and tap Add Account.
      • Enter the password and tap Sign in.
      • If two-step verification is enabled, approve the sign-in request.
      • When prompted Let this app access your info?, choose Yes; selecting No prevents setup from completing.
    4. Add work/school (Microsoft 365/Exchange) accounts via iOS Mail as a test
      • On the iPhone, go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account.
      • For Microsoft 365/Exchange or Outlook email, choose Microsoft Exchange.
      • Enter the work email address and a description, then tap Next.
      • Tap Sign In and enter the password.
      • Accept any requested permissions and choose what to sync, then tap Save.
      • If these accounts add successfully to the iOS Mail app but still fail in Outlook, the issue is isolated to the Outlook app or policies applied to it.
    5. If work accounts are managed by an organization (Intune/app protection)
      • Install Microsoft Authenticator from the iOS App Store.
      • Ensure Outlook for iOS is installed from the App Store (not via backup/restore).
      • Open Outlook for iOS.
      • If the work account is auto-detected, tap Add Account; otherwise enter the company email and tap Add Account.
      • Enter the password and tap Sign In.
      • Complete any Authenticator, text, or phone verification prompts.
      • If prompted to Register the device, tap Register and let it complete.
      • When shown Your organization is now protecting its data in this app. You need to restart the app to continue, tap OK, restart Outlook, and set the app PIN if requested.
    6. If still failing for all accounts
      • Confirm that when prompted to allow access ("Let this app access your info?"), Yes is selected for each account.
      • If any account was previously blocked due to repeated failed attempts, reset its password from a browser on the iPhone, then try adding it again in Outlook.
      • If the work accounts are tenant-managed, contact the organization’s IT admin to check for conditional access or mobile app management policies that might be blocking Outlook for iOS.
