Problem starting Minecraft Bedrock

I purchased Minecraft, and when I launch the Java version it runs normally. However, when I try to start my Bedrock version, the screen goes black and my PC starts freezing. After a few seconds, the game shows as “not responding.” The AMD driver also displays the following message: “The AMD software has detected that a driver timeout has occurred on your system.” How can I fix this problem so I can play with my friends? When I open the AMD Adrenalin driver, it shows that everything is up to date. I haven’t had my PC for very long.

The best option is to completely remove the current AMD graphics drivers and software using the widely available free DDU utility, then restart your PC and go to the AMD website to download and install a couple of slightly older versions of the AMD graphics driver to try to find a version that is stable on your system.

The crash and black screen with the AMD “driver timeout” message indicate a graphics driver/DirectX issue when launching Minecraft Bedrock.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Update or roll back the graphics driver
    • Install a different AMD driver version than the one currently in use (either the latest stable or a slightly older one).
    • If the issue started after a recent driver update, use a clean uninstall tool (such as DDU) in Safe Mode to remove the current AMD driver, then install an older, stable version. A similar driver rollback resolved unknown crashes and TDR (timeout detection and recovery) issues for another Minecraft for Windows player.
    1. Update DirectX and Windows
    • Install the latest DirectX End-User Runtimes from Microsoft:
      • Go to the DirectX End-User Runtimes Web Installer page and install the latest version.
    • Run Windows Update and install all available updates, including optional driver and graphics updates.
    1. Check for general black-screen/driver issues
    • When the screen goes black, press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B to reset the graphics driver and see if the system recovers more reliably.
    • Ensure the monitor is correctly connected and powered, and that the correct display mode is selected with Windows + P.
    1. Clean startup to rule out conflicts
    • Perform a clean startup so that only essential services and drivers load, then try launching Minecraft Bedrock again. Background software (overlays, recording tools, or GPU utilities) can interfere with Direct3D and cause timeouts.

If Bedrock still black-screens and times out the AMD driver after trying a different driver version, updated DirectX, and a clean startup, collect crash details (Event Viewer, AMD crash logs) and contact support with those logs for deeper driver-level analysis.
