    Hi Victoria,

Was the mistake in the username or the domain name?

If the domain, follow the instructions by Jay. If not, let me know.

    Hi @VICTORIA ILESANMI

Good day. I hope you are doing well.

To change a domain name, please follow these steps:

    1. Add new domain in Office 365
    • Sign into the Microsoft 365 admin center
    • Click on the Settings option on the left panel. Then, select the Domains.
    • Press the + button to add the domain.

    • Type the name of your new domain. Then, hit the Next option.
    1. Verify domain ownership & set up required DNS records
    • After adding the new domain. Choose the verification process.
    • If you use the TXT record option, Microsoft will give you TXT records.
    • Go to your domain registrar’s where your new domain is originally registered.
    • Add the TXT file that you have given. Now, in the admin center, press the Verify button.
    • After that, you are going to configure the required DNS. Microsoft will give your MX records, CNAME, SPF/DKIM/DMARC.
    • Add these records in your registrar and wait to complete the setup.
    1. Change users primary email address

Once you have set up your new domain. Now, set your primary email addresses of all the users. To do this, please follow these steps:

    • In your Microsoft 365 admin center, go to the Users section.
    • Select the Active users option. Then, choose a user you want to update.
    • Click on the Manage username and email option. Select Add to add the email alias.

To correct an error in a Microsoft 365 business email address or change it to use the right domain, an administrator with the appropriate role must update the user account in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

If only the user part or domain of the email address is wrong (for example, ******@wrongdomain.com instead of ******@rightdomain.com):

    1. Ensure the correct domain is added to the tenant
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings > Domains.
      • If the correct domain is missing, select Add domain and follow the steps to verify and set it up. You’ll be guided through confirming ownership and configuring DNS so the domain can be used for email.
    2. Change the user’s email address to the correct one
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Users > Active users.
      • Select the user whose email address is wrong.
      • On the Account tab, select Manage username and email.
      • Edit the Username field to fix the typo or select the correct domain from the Domains dropdown.
      • Select Done to save.

If the entire business email domain needs to be changed (for example, from @contoso.onmicrosoft.com to @contoso.com):

    1. Add or set up the custom domain
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings > Domains > Add domain.
      • Follow the steps to confirm ownership and complete setup for the new domain.
    2. Update user email addresses to the new domain
      • Go to Users > Active users.
      • For each user, open the account, choose Manage username and email, and change the address to use the new domain.
      • Save the changes.

    Notes:

    • A user administrator role (or higher) is required to change user email addresses.
    • If an error appears when editing the user, use the guidance under “Resolve error messages” in the admin documentation.
