Today i turned on my computer ( windows 11 ) and it cleared all my data. No onedrive, nothing on my desktop. I restarted a couple times and i got it back to normal but i got this error. And now, it keeps freezing up randomly. Why did this happen? Is this anything i should worry about. Is something in my system corrpted? Do i have a virus? Will this happen again?

    Hi,

Some corrections have been made to the file system as I see. May I know if there is any improvement?

    Hi,
Windows might have logged into a temporary profile. All the symptoms point that your hard drive might be failing. Backup your data immediately, please.

Please download and run HDTune Trial or HD Tune Free.

Select the Disk where OS is installed.

    Make screenshots of the following

    the health.

    the error scan.

    the benchmark.

    Post back the screenshots.

The behavior described (temporary loss of desktop data and OneDrive, then an explorer.exe – File system error (-1073479340) message) indicates a problem accessing the system drive or user profile, not necessarily a virus. It can be caused by:

    • File system or disk errors
    • A storage device that is starting to fail
    • Corruption in the user profile or Windows system files

Because this involves the file system and storage, it should be taken seriously even if everything came back after a restart.

    Recommended actions:

    1. Back up important data immediately
Before doing anything else, copy important files to an external drive or a cloud service (such as OneDrive). Recovery operations can lead to data loss if the drive is unstable.
    2. Check for critical storage warnings in Windows 11
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Storage.
      2. Go to Advanced storage settings > Disks & volumes.
      3. Select Properties for the system disk and review any critical warnings or health attributes (such as Spare capacity is low, Reliability is degraded, or Drive is set to read-only).
      4. If any critical warning is shown, back up data (if not already done) and contact support or a repair technician, as the drive may be failing.
    3. Prepare information in case the error returns If blue screens, restarts, or additional file system errors appear, collect:
      • Windows version and edition
      • Device model and hardware specs
      • Exact error messages (including any stop codes)
      • Any steps taken just before the issue
      • Output from running chkdsk on the affected drive This information is useful if contacting support.
    4. Use Windows recovery options if the system becomes unstable If Windows stops starting correctly or the desktop/profile issue becomes frequent:
      • Try System Restore first if a restore point exists.
      • If that fails and Windows will not start reliably, use a recovery drive or installation media to reinstall Windows, after backing up data.

Whether this will happen again depends on the underlying cause. If the storage device is degraded or has critical warnings, the problem is likely to recur and can eventually lead to data loss, so backing up and checking disk health are the most important steps.
