Office 2010, including Publisher 2010, is no longer supported. There is no supported way to extend its life beyond retirement or to guarantee continued activation and security updates.
For a boxed retail copy purchased at a store like Best Buy, the 25‑character product key is normally printed on the card or packaging. Without the original installation media (DVD), Office 2010 cannot be reinstalled even if the product key is available:
- If Office 2010 originally came on a DVD and that disc is lost, it is not possible to reinstall Office 2010 using only the key.
- The key alone does not provide a download source or new media for Office 2010.
If the existing installation is still working on the current PC, it can continue to be used as long as the operating system and hardware support it, but once it is removed or the machine fails, there is no supported path to reinstall from Microsoft.
To ensure continued support and security, the recommended path is to move to a supported version such as Microsoft 365 and use the suggested replacement apps (for example, Word or PowerPoint) for Publisher scenarios.
If there are issues with the product key itself (for example, it stops working), the only supported option is to contact the original seller for a refund or resolution.
