S Mode version of Windows 11

Question

Hello there, I want to connect my laptop to my nokia lumina 630 via USB wire but because its an old one I would like to scan it for viruses with my laptop but since there is no scan option in S Mode versions of Windows 11 and I can't scan it with my phone. Is there a way to scan it? I am just afraid I might infect my laptop

To break things down a bit for clarity, please note that Windows 11 in S mode is already very locked down and secure, even though it doesn’t always show a manual “Scan” option in File Explorer. Simply connecting your Nokia Lumia via USB and viewing files (without opening anything unfamiliar) is very low risk, as Microsoft Defender continues to provide protection automatically in the background.

If you’d like some extra peace of mind, you can run a full scan on your laptop after connecting the phone by following the steps below (as also suggested by the Q&A Assist above):

• Open Start and type Windows Security
• Select Virus & threat protection
• Click Scan options
• Choose Full scan then select Scan now

Windows 11 in S mode still includes the built-in Windows Security app with Microsoft Defender Antivirus, so the laptop can scan connected storage devices without leaving S mode.

To scan the Nokia Lumia 630 safely:

1. Connect the phone to the laptop via USB and set it to a mode where its storage is visible in File Explorer (for example, as a media device or storage device).
2. Open File Explorer and locate the phone or its storage (it may appear under This PC as a device or drive).
3. Right-click the phone’s storage (or any specific folder on it).
4. Select Scan with Microsoft Defender.
   • On Windows 11, if that option is not immediately visible, right-click the drive/folder, choose Show more options, then select Scan with Microsoft Defender.
5. Let the scan complete and follow any actions recommended by Windows Security.

This uses the built-in Microsoft Defender Antivirus, which is fully supported in Windows 11 (including S mode) and provides real-time and on-demand scanning to help prevent malware from infecting the laptop.

If extra reassurance is needed, a full system scan can also be run:
