How to fix, ""Something went wrong" error when you try to start a Microsoft 365 app"

All of my WORD files have migrated to having a new symbol on them. Even when they occur in my cloud files, I cannot open them. I get the error dialog box "Something went wrong" error when you try to start a Microsoft 365 app" and I am not successful in restarting Microsoft 365. I do not know it this is the correct fix. I need guidance please.
