A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Microsoft Authenticator no longer autofills passwords and codes the way it used to because the Autofill feature is being retired.
Key changes:
- Autofill in the Microsoft Authenticator app was discontinued in mid‑August 2025.
- The Microsoft Autofill Chrome extension was retired on December 14, 2024.
- Starting July 2025, the autofill feature in Authenticator stops working, and from August 2025, passwords are no longer accessible in Authenticator.
Because of these changes, sign‑ins that previously auto‑populated from Authenticator now require manually opening the app and approving notifications or reading a verification code.
To keep signing in securely:
- Continue using Microsoft Authenticator for push notifications (Approve / Deny) or verification codes as prompted.
- If needed, configure an alternative method (such as SMS or another authenticator app) in the account’s security settings, following the guidance from the account or tenant administrator.
