For Microsoft Applied Skills labs and assessments, all required Azure resources (including Azure OpenAI) are created and managed by the lab environment itself. They are temporary and can be removed or reset between attempts. This is expected behavior and can result in a resource that was visible in a first attempt no longer being present in a later attempt under the same resource group.
To proceed with the “Develop generative AI apps with Azure OpenAI and Semantic Kernel” Applied Skills assessment when the OpenAI resource is missing:
- Start the assessment again from the Applied Skills page
- Launch the lab from the “Microsoft Applied Skills: Develop generative AI apps with Azure OpenAI and Semantic Kernel” credential page.
- Wait for the lab environment to finish provisioning before opening the Azure portal. Provisioning can take several minutes.
- Use only the lab-provided subscription and resource group
- Ensure the correct subscription and resource group (those created by the lab) are selected in the Azure portal.
- If the OpenAI resource is not present, do not create your own resource unless the lab instructions explicitly tell you to. Instead, allow the lab scripts to finish running.
- Refresh and re-check resources
- In the Azure portal, select the correct resource group and use the Refresh button after a few minutes to see if the Azure OpenAI resource appears.
- If the resource still does not appear
- End the current lab session and re-launch the assessment from Microsoft Learn so that a fresh environment is provisioned.
- If repeated attempts fail, contact Microsoft credentials support so they can investigate the specific lab environment for this credential.
For direct assistance with an Applied Skills lab environment (including missing resources, broken provisioning, or repeated failures across attempts), use the official credentials support channel:
- Go to the credentials support help page and open a support request describing that in the “Develop generative AI apps with Azure OpenAI and Semantic Kernel” Applied Skills assessment, the Azure OpenAI resource is missing in the lab-provided resource group on subsequent attempts.
Support can review the lab configuration tied to the account and reset or repair the environment if needed.
