Is this a version of Office which was included when you purchased your computer? Usually, the retailer or the PC manufacturer should be able to explain the steps you need to take to download, install and activate your product.

Microsoft Word 2024 is part of Microsoft 365 or Office 2024; it is not available as a standalone free desktop download.

To use Word on a PC without paying for the full desktop product, use the free Microsoft 365 apps in a browser:

    1. Go to the free Microsoft 365 apps page: https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web?ocid=cmmsv26ibz3.
    2. Sign in with a Microsoft account (or create one if needed).
    3. Select Word to create and edit documents online.

If a full desktop version is required and a paid license already exists (for example via school or work):

    1. Go to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps and select Sign in.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account or work/school account associated with the license.
    3. If using a Microsoft account, on the Microsoft 365 Apps page select Install apps and then Install to download and install the Office/Microsoft 365 suite, which includes Word.
    4. If using a work or school account and no install option appears, go to the Microsoft 365 Software page and choose language and bit version, then select Install.
    5. If there is still no install option, the account may not have a license assigned; see the guidance under Need help? in the referenced article.

If the PC is running an unsupported operating system (for example Windows Vista or Windows XP), the desktop apps cannot be installed; in that case, continue using the free Microsoft 365 apps in the browser.
