My Copilot service has been suspended in error.

Hi.

I just upgraded my subscription and wanted to learn more about my expanded copilot benefits and its capabilities. In doing so, I wanted to create some images/ or a short video about Sikh Gurus. I am a practicing Sikh, hence I was naturally inclined to use this as a possible subject.

Copilot responded by giving me some ideas about what an image can entail and how I can go about creating such an image and video. When I asked Copilot itself to generate an Image, I received Code of Conduct violation emails and suddenly my Copilot Service was suspended.

I did not give Copilot any prompts to create an image/content that would be in violation of the code of conduct terms. The images I asked it to generate were suggested by the copilot response itself and were in no way in violation of any guidelines.

I am happy for Microsoft to investigate this matter fully and to analyze the chat contents in question. In the end, I want to understand how and what led to my service suspension and how can it be reinstated.

Thanks,

Navdeep

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

It's unfortunate to hear what you've been through, and I understand your eager to get back to use Copilot.

Before we proceed, may I know if you can still access Microsoft Services other than Copilot? Additionally, can you still log in to the Microsoft website?

Copilot image and content features are protected by content filters and abuse-detection systems. These systems can sometimes incorrectly flag legitimate use and automatically suspend access when they detect what appears to be repeated or serious violations of the content policy.

Key points from the applicable policies:

    1. Content policy and filters
      • Microsoft applies content filtering to prevent generation of images that may be harmful, offensive, or inappropriate, based on criteria such as human dignity, diversity, and inclusion.
      • Abusive use of these features, including repeated attempts to create harmful content or other violations of the content policy, may result in automatic suspension of generative features.
      • Content filtering is not perfect and may fail in both directions: it may allow some problematic content, or it may incorrectly block or penalize acceptable content.
    2. User responsibilities
      • Users are responsible for using Copilot features in a respectful and lawful manner and for not infringing on the rights or privacy of others, or violating laws or regulations.
      • When uploading or editing images, users must only use original images they own or have rights to use and must not violate the Microsoft Services Agreement or Copilot Terms of Use.
    3. What likely happened in this scenario
      • The suspension was likely triggered automatically by the safety and abuse-detection systems based on how the prompts were interpreted, not necessarily because the prompts were intentionally harmful.
      • Because the system is probabilistic, it can misclassify benign religious or cultural content as violating policy.
    4. How to proceed toward reinstatement
      • The only path to reinstatement is through Microsoft support review; automated systems cannot be overridden from the client side.
      • Provide support with:
        • The approximate date/time of the suspension.
        • The Microsoft account used.
        • A clear explanation that the prompts were about respectful, informational or devotional images of Sikh Gurus and that Copilot itself suggested the ideas.
        • Consent for support to review the relevant Copilot conversation history.
      • During review, support can:
        • Examine the flagged prompts and responses.
        • Determine whether the suspension was in error.
        • Remove or adjust the suspension if the use is found to be compliant.
    5. How to reduce the chance of future false flags
      • Emphasize respectful, educational, or historical intent in prompts (for example, “Create a respectful, historically accurate illustration of…”).
      • Avoid language that could be interpreted as disparaging, sensational, or exploitative toward any religious figures or communities.
      • If an image request is blocked, avoid repeatedly rephrasing it in ways that might look like attempts to bypass filters; instead, change the goal or move to more general, clearly educational content.
      • If inappropriate or unexpected blocking occurs, use the built-in Feedback mechanism to report it so the filters can be improved.

Because account and suspension handling is done on Microsoft’s back-end systems, only official support channels can investigate the specific cause in this case and reinstate Copilot access after review.
