My sound on the computer is on and tested, but when I try to play a video on the internet, I have no sound although settings on the sound in the system are all set properly as far as I can tell. Can you please help me? Thank you

    Hi,

Check if your browser has the sound muted if it's a video site like YouTube.

To access YouTube in your browser, right-click at the top of the tab and see if there's an "unmute" option; press it to unmute the sound.

    User's image

Check the video itself to make sure it's not muted.

Go to Start Menu > Settings > System > Sound > Volume Mix and see if your browser has the sound icon with an "x". If it does, click it again and see if it unmutes.

Use these steps to troubleshoot when system sound works but internet videos (browser audio) are silent.

    1. Check the Volume mixer for the browser
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Select Volume mixer.
      3. Make sure the volume slider is turned up and not muted for:
        • System
        • The web browser being used (for example, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, etc.).
    2. Verify the correct output device
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Output, confirm the device used to hear other sounds (speakers/headphones) is selected.
      3. Test a system sound and then test an internet video again.
    3. Turn off audio enhancements for the output device
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Output, select the audio device in use.
      3. Select Audio enhancements (or scroll to Advanced settings and locate Audio enhancements).
      4. Set enhancements to Off and test the browser video again.
    4. Change the audio format
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Output, select the audio device.
      3. Select Advanced.
      4. Under Default format, choose a different format and test an internet video.
    5. Run the audio troubleshooter
      1. Select Start > Settings > System.
      2. Select Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      3. In the Audio section, select Run and follow the steps.

If the problem persists after these steps, update or reinstall the audio driver from Device Manager and then test internet videos again.
