Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1

    Try resetting Xbox Game Bar:

Search for GameBar in the search bar on the taskbar, right-click the results, and select 'App Settings'.

Scroll down until you find 'Repair'.

If repairing the app does not resolve the issue, try 'Reset'.

    2

    Update your System Graphics Drivers:

    Open the Device Manager.

Expand the arrow next to Display Adapters.

Right-click your dedicated graphics drivers (Nvidia or AMD), select Update drivers > Search automatically for available drivers, and click Update.

If Windows does not find any up-to-date drivers, download and install the latest one from your PC manufacturer’s or driver manufacturer’s website.

    3

Re-register Xbox Game Bar by running the command using a PowerShell (Administrator) window.

    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Once completed, restart your computer and start recording. (Win + ALT + R)

If you are still having issues, let me know.

Xbox Game Bar must be fully enabled and configured before recording will work reliably.

    Try these steps:

    1. Open the game or app to record.
    2. Press Windows logo key + G to open Game Bar.
    3. Make sure capturing is enabled and system audio is configured:
      • Press Tab until the Settings button is focused, then press Enter.
      • Press the Down arrow until "Capturing" is selected.
      • Press Tab until the "All" radio button is reached. If it is announced as "Not selected," press Spacebar to select it. This ensures all audio types are allowed.
    4. Close Settings and Game Bar (press Windows logo key + G again).
    5. Start a recording using the shortcut instead of the on‑screen button:
      • Press Windows logo key + Alt + R to start recording.
      • Use Windows logo key + Alt + M to toggle the microphone while recording.
      • Press Windows logo key + Alt + R again to stop.

After a successful recording, the clip is saved under Videos > Captures as an MP4 file. If this still fails and Game Bar closes after loading, update Windows and the Xbox Game Bar app from Microsoft Store, then try again.
