Team Recording not showing

Hi, I started the recording myself for yesterday’s long Teams meeting, but it is still not visible in OneDrive, even though another recording is visible in chat. Could you please check whether this recording is stuck in processing, stored in temporary storage, or failed to upload, and run the Missing Recording Diagnostic?

The mentioned service degradation refers to Teams for Business users. If you are using personal account (aka Teams Free), and you have initiated recording, then recording is not saved to OneDrive, but is saved to Cloud only.

Recording file (.mp4 file) remains saved in the Cloud for 30 days and then deleted. A link to download this recording file should be available in the chat window of the meeting.

    Dear @Dr Anil Bankar,

Thanks for reaching out and for the detailed explanation. I understand how frustrating it can be when a meeting recording doesn’t appear as expected, especially after a long session.

Since you mentioned that another recording is visible in the meeting chat, this usually confirms that recording is working in general, and the issue may be specific to the missing session (for example, upload failure, processing delay, or a policy-related restriction).

In this case, I’d like to clarify that as a forum moderator, I don’t have access to tenant‑side systems or backend tools, so I’m unable to directly check whether a specific recording is stuck in processing, stored in temporary storage, or failed to upload, nor can I run the Missing Recording Diagnostic on your behalf.

That said, here are a few important points and suggested next steps I recommend you look though

Firstly, try scrolling up to the top of the chat window and then scrolling back to the bottom. This action might trigger a chat service event and restore the meeting recording link.

If the link still doesn’t appear, you can check the storage location directly:

    • For non‑channel meetings: The recording is stored in the Recordings folder in the recording user’s OneDrive: OneDrive for Business > My files > Recordings (In some cases, the recording is saved under the meeting organizer’s OneDrive.)
    • For channel meetings: The recording is stored in the channel’s SharePoint site: Teams channel > Files > Recordings > Open in SharePoint
    • For more information, please refer to The meeting recording link isn't visible in a chat window

However, if you were not the meeting organizer, the recording may be saved under the organizer’s OneDrive (in the Recordings folder), even if you started the recording. Therefore, I recommend you ask the meeting organizers to check whether the recording was saved under their recordings folder. For reference: Teams meeting recording and transcript storage and permissions in OneDrive and SharePoint

If the issue still persists, in Microsoft Teams, only meeting organizers or IT administrators can run tenant‑level diagnostics, including the Missing Recording Diagnostic, via the Microsoft 365 admin center. For more information, please follow the Microsoft Official Guides here: Run the Meeting Recording Support Diagnostic + New Diagnostic: Missing Teams Meeting Recording and Self-help diagnostics for Microsoft Teams administrators

Note: If you do not know who your IT admin is, please follow this How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.

The recording status can’t be checked directly here, but the following steps can be used to determine whether it’s still processing, in temporary storage, or missing, and to run the Missing Recording Diagnostic.

    1. First, confirm the recording actually started
      • In the meeting chat, look for the system message that says the recording started.
      • If there is no such message, the recording most likely didn’t start and can’t be recovered.
    2. Check the normal storage locations
      • For non-channel meetings: open the OneDrive for Business of the person who started the recording and look under My files > Recordings.
      • For channel meetings: in the Teams channel, go to Files > Recordings > Open in SharePoint. In SharePoint, the file is under Documents > <Channel name> > Recordings.
    3. If the recording isn’t in OneDrive/SharePoint
      • If the recording was started successfully but doesn’t appear in OneDrive or SharePoint, it may have failed to upload and been stored in temporary async media storage.
      • In that case, a recording “chiclet” or message appears in the meeting chat. When a recording fails to upload because the organizer/co‑organizers/initiator don’t have OneDrive or are out of quota, it is stored in async media storage for 21 days. During that time, the organizer must download it and can then manually upload it to OneDrive or SharePoint.
      • If not downloaded within 21 days, the recording is deleted and can’t be recovered.
    4. Run the Missing Recording Diagnostic (admin action)
      • A Microsoft 365 administrator can run the Missing Recording Diagnostic from the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • In the admin center, select the Run Tests link for the Missing Recording Diagnostic.
      • In Run diagnostic, enter:
        • URL of the meeting that was recorded (from the meeting invitation), and
        • When was the meeting recorded? (date/time).
      • Run the tests. They confirm whether the meeting recording finished successfully and whether it was uploaded to SharePoint or OneDrive.
    5. If the recording still can’t be found
      • If the diagnostic confirms no successful upload and there is no downloadable file in the chat (or the chat chiclet indicates permanent deletion), the recording can’t be recovered.
      • If the diagnostic or checks show configuration issues (license, policy, storage), those must be corrected before future meetings.

    For future recordings, ensure:

    • The organizer/recorder has a valid OneDrive/SharePoint license and sufficient storage.
    • Teams client is up to date.
