Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Just to confirm, do you mean you have successfully reset the password via the account recovery webform and yet you are still unable to access the account? Is that correct?

If yes, kindly perform these steps to fix the verification method error:

    1. Perform a password reset/account recovery webform via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset/request another account recovery. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password, as stated in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

The account is locked due to unusual or repeated unsuccessful sign-in and recovery attempts. To regain access, follow these steps and pause any further repeated tries, as they can extend the lockout period:

    1. Wait out the lockout/cooldown
      • If the system says there have been too many attempts, wait at least 24 hours without trying to sign in, reset the password, or submit the recovery form again. Repeated attempts can restart the cooldown.
    2. Use the official Sign-in Helper for blocked Outlook/Hotmail accounts
      • After the wait period, go to the Sign-in Helper from a device and location normally used to access the account.
      • Follow the prompts to verify identity (security code to phone/email, etc.) and unblock the Outlook.com/Microsoft account.
    3. If the account is locked and “Next” does not appear
      • If, when signing in, the Next option does not appear and a lock message is shown, the account is locked due to suspicious activity or Terms of Use issues.
      • In that case, select the link in the window that begins with aka.ms/ and follow the instructions to submit the reinstatement form. Submit it once and wait for the Microsoft Online Safety team to respond by email; multiple submissions can slow the process.
    4. If the password is not recognized and the account is not just blocked
      • Use the Recover your account flow at https://account.live.com/password/reset as described in “My username and password have stopped working”.
      • Enter the Hotmail address, choose where to receive the security code, enter the code, and set a new password.
      • Ensure the correct domain (for example, .com vs .co.uk) and correct spelling of the email name are used.
    5. If recovery and unblock still fail
      • If the Sign-in Helper and password reset both fail, use the guidance in When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account (linked from the unblock article) to continue troubleshooting and reach support.
      • For persistent failures after all self-service options, contact Microsoft Support using any other Microsoft account to request help with account recovery, as outlined in the Q&A guidance.

Note: If the Hotmail/Outlook.com account has not been signed into for more than 2 years, it may have been deleted and would not be recoverable.
