How to apply nonprofit grant

I have a non-profit grant for Azure. Unfortunately I was unable to renew the grant in February because I was unable to log into the portal.

My logging in problem is now sorted and I have renewed the non-profit grant now:

Azure grant claimed

Congratulations! The Azure grant has been approved. You will now see the $2,000 (USD) grant when you log into the Azure services portal.

Grant start date: 3/7/2026

Grant end date: 3/7/2027

However, I believe that my Subscription has reverted to normal charging as I have been billed for last month.

This has happened to me before because I had forgotten to renew the non-profit grant.

I have been trying to talk to support but that is proving impossible.

Does anyone know how I can apply the non-profit grant onto my subscription please?

    Martin Hamilton,

thx for join us at Q&A platform )))) yeah this is normal, grant ≠ auto-applied to existing subscription.

what happened u renewed grant > got credits but ur old subscription already switched to PAYG > so it keeps billing

Azure doesnt auto move subscriptions back to grant

create a new subscription under the grant (most common fix) or check if ur current subscription is even eligible to attach credits (often its not).

in portal go to Cost Management > check if credits are being applied if not > ur sub is not linked to the grant

important gotcha grants usually create/use separate subscription tied to “Azure Sponsorship” or similar

so u might now have something like

    • old PAYG subscription (billing u)
    • new grant subscription (with USD2000 sitting unused)

real fix tbh just spin new resources under the grant subscription and stop using old one

if u really need to reuse old subscription > support has to re-link it ( but be ready it could be painful and slow, sorry for that)

    rgds,

    Alex
