After an upgrade I have had lots of errors - my computer sends me various error messages at various times. I think I need to free up some disk space but I don't know how to do this.

    Hii

This situation could be a software issue, such as an app or update.

I recommend you do the following: type the command diskcleanup in the search bar and click OK. Select the C drive > Select the "Clean up system files" option > tick all options except the "Downloads" folder and click "OK".

Use PC Manager to perform disk checks in addition to TreeSize.

Then, download the Treesize app from the link below and run it as an administrator. Select the C drive option and wait for it to finish loading. It will show you where spaces (application names) exist, enter the folder or file name here.

Be careful when deleting folders in TreeSize; I can instruct you if you wish.

To free up disk space in Windows 11 and help reduce errors, use the built-in cleanup tools and, if needed, external storage.

    1. Use Storage cleanup recommendations
    2. Select Start > Settings > System > Storage.
    3. Select Cleanup recommendations.
    4. Review the categories (Temporary files, Large or unused files, etc.), select the items to remove, then select the Clean up button for each section.

This can reclaim space used by temporary files, previous updates, and other unneeded data.

    1. Use Disk Cleanup (if available)
    2. In the search box on the taskbar, type disk cleanup and select it.
    3. Choose the drive (usually C:), then select OK.
    4. Select the check boxes for file types to delete (for example, Temporary Internet Files, Thumbnails, etc.). Clear any you want to keep.
    5. Select Clean up system files, choose the drive again, then select additional system file types to remove (such as previous Windows installations if shown and no longer needed).
    6. Select OK > Delete files to start cleanup.

Note: Deleting a previous Windows version (Windows.old) frees space but removes the option to go back to that version.

    1. Compress the OS drive (optional) If more space is still needed:
    2. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
    3. In the left pane, select This PC.
    4. Right-click the OS drive (usually C:), select Properties.
    5. On the General tab, select Compress this drive to save disk space > Apply > OK.

This does not delete files and can be reversed later by clearing the same check box and selecting Apply > OK.

    1. Use external storage if updates need more space If Windows Update reports low disk space when installing updates:
    2. Connect a USB drive, SD card, or external hard drive with at least 10 GB free.
    3. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update.
    4. If shown, select Fix issues. Choose the external drive from the drop-down list and follow the instructions to complete the update.
    5. Safely remove the external drive after installation.

If errors continue after freeing space, check Windows Update again and install any pending updates, as low disk space can prevent updates and cause instability.
