In 2023 I successfully transferred over my Mojang account to a Microsoft account and was able to play with my friends. Now, when I try to log back in, my Minecraft account is gone. Instead, my brother's account is the only one linked to my email. Please help.

    Hi, I'm John!

A couple of important things to consider:

Has this email address (or alias) ever been removed from your Microsoft account before?

    • If an alias is removed, it usually cannot be re-added or recreated for security reasons.

Also, is it possible that your account may have been hacked? Do you remember receiving any security alert before this happened?

    • If you’ve already confirmed the email address is correct and you’re still seeing that the account doesn’t exist, there’s a chance the alias was removed due to unauthorized access.

    To confirm:

Try searching for the account using these steps from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/forgotten-your-microsoft-account-username-b2049472-3b8f-27d3-61c6-67a668453f4c Click on "Search" and follow the instructions provided.

If you receive any error messages, such as “account doesn’t exist” or anything else, please let me know.

Follow these steps to track down and recover the correct Microsoft account for Minecraft:

    1. Check which email is actually a Microsoft account
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com and enter the email address you believe was used for the Minecraft migration.
      • If you get a password prompt, that email is a Microsoft account.
      • If you see “We couldn't find an account with that username” or “That Microsoft account doesn't exist,” then that email is not currently a Microsoft account and either was never used or has been closed. In that case, double‑check spelling and domain (for example, .com vs .co.uk) and try any other addresses you might have used.
    2. Find all Microsoft accounts tied to your emails/aliases
      • If one of your addresses shows only your brother’s profile when signing in, there may be multiple aliases or accounts involved.
      • Use the Sign‑in Helper tool to locate accounts and usernames associated with your details: Start.
      • If you have forgotten which email was used for your own Minecraft migration, use the “Forgotten your Microsoft account username” flow from the Sign‑in Helper to list aliases that can sign in.
    3. Confirm that the email you’re using is the right one
      • Follow the guidance in “How to check if your email is a Microsoft account?”:
        • If you see a password prompt, the email is valid as a Microsoft account.
        • If not, the Minecraft migration may have been done with a different email.
    4. If you still cannot find the correct account
      • Use the general Microsoft account recovery/sign‑in help to work through:
        • Forgotten email/username.
        • Password not working.
        • Verification code issues.
      • Start from the Sign‑in Helper: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2214157 and follow the appropriate path for your situation.
    5. If the account was hacked or changed
      • If you suspect the migrated Microsoft account was compromised and the email or aliases were changed, follow the hacked/compromised account recovery guidance and complete the account recovery form with as much accurate information as possible (old passwords, purchase info, devices, etc.). If the automated recovery fails, the account cannot be restored.
    6. Contact Minecraft Support about the game license
      • If the Microsoft account cannot be recovered but you have proof of Minecraft Java/Bedrock ownership, contact Minecraft Support (as shown in the referenced Q&A) to ask if there are any options for your game licenses.
