Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The message that the account does not exist usually means either the wrong type of account is being used or the email address is mistyped, or there is no Microsoft 365/Office license on that account.
Try these steps:
- Confirm the correct account
- For Microsoft 365 for home, the account must be a personal Microsoft account (for example, the one used to buy the subscription), or a work/school account if it is a business subscription.
- If unsure which account has the subscription, see the guidance in About accounts in Office to verify which account owns the license.
- Check for typos and aliases
- Make sure the email address is entered exactly as created (correct domain such as outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, or your work/school domain).
- If this is during Office/Microsoft 365 activation on the new PC
- Open any Office app (for example, Word).
- Select the name/profile icon at the top.
- Select Sign out of all accounts.
- Select Sign in and enter the correct account that owns the Microsoft 365 or Office license (for home, this is usually the personal Microsoft account used to purchase the subscription).
- If prompted for a product key instead, follow the steps in Where to enter your Office product key from the activation article.
- If the account truly does not exist
- If sign-in pages and recovery tools say the account does not exist, and there is no way to recover it, a new Microsoft account must be created and a new subscription or license associated with it.
If this is a work or school subscription and the work/school account is not recognized or has no license, contact the Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm that the account exists and has a license assigned.
