To change the legal name used for Microsoft certifications and exams, the legal name must be updated in the Microsoft Learn profile using the Credentials support flow, not the Engage Center.
Follow these steps:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Learn profile that is used for certification and exams.
- Go to the profile Settings page: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/users/me/settings
- In Settings, follow the instructions under Legal Name to update the legal name.
- If any message appears indicating that Certification Support must be contacted (for example, no option to edit the legal name or validation issues), follow the link provided there to open a ticket with Credentials Support and request a legal name correction before the exam date.
If the issue is specifically with a Microsoft Certification exam (not GitHub Certification), use the Credentials Support entry point:
- Go to Credentials Support: https://www.aka.ms/credentialssupport
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for exams.
- Complete the required profile fields and save.
- Open the link again and submit a support request under the Learning/Microsoft Credential category, describing that the legal name must be corrected before the scheduled exam.
For GitHub Certification exams, use the GitHub-specific instructions:
- Ensure sign-in to the Learn profile.
- Go to Settings and attempt to update the legal name.
- If prompted to contact Certification Support, follow that link and file a ticket with the Credentials Support team for GitHub Certifications.
If there are any issues with the exam appointment itself (for example, name mismatch at check-in), contact the exam delivery partner support listed under exam technical/scheduling issues after submitting the name correction request.
