Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi , Thank you for reaching out!
My name is Stefano and it’s my pleasure to assist you today.
In Microsoft Outlook Classic, the green check mark represents the command “Mark Complete” for a flagged email.
If clicking the flag only removes the red flag instead of turning it into a green check, it might mean the “Mark Complete” action is not being triggered or the flag behavior is configured differently.
I would suggest you check:
- Mark the flagged email as complete manually
- Select the email.
- Go to Home → Follow Up.
- Click Mark Complete.
If the feature works correctly, the red flag becomes a green check mark.
Alternative quick method:
- Right-click the flag column > Mark Complete.
- Use the keyboard shortcut
Press:
CTRL + SHIFT + G
This opens the Flag dialog, where you can click Mark Complete.
- Check if the To-Do integration is active
In newer Outlook Classic builds (like 2603 / build 19822) the follow-up system integrates with Microsoft To Do.
If that integration changes behavior:
- The flag may only toggle on/off instead of switching to a green check.
- Completion may be handled through the To-Do pane.
Try:
- Open the To-Do bar (View > To-Do Bar > Tasks).
- Mark the flagged email completed there.
- Reset the Follow-Up settings
- Go to View tab.
- Click Reset View.
Then flag a test email and choose Mark Complete.
Keep me posted.
Regrads,
Stefano
