My cursor is not working

There is no cursor on my screen and there is no indication of it moving when i use the touchpad. I tried restarting my computer, changing the cursor settings, reinstalling the built-in cursor device, installing all updates, using the functions on the keyboard, checking for malware and nothing has worked. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    1

Look at the Function Keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, id one of those keys has a touchpad icon, try pressing that key or Fn + that key to see if that toggles on the touchpad.

    2

If not, start your laptop, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

Please try each option one at a time, then see if the touchpad is working on your laptop.

    1

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Repair

See if Windows startup can repair itself

    2

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to dated before the touchpad problem started.

Follow these steps in order, checking after each step to see if the cursor returns.

    1. Check if the touchpad/mouse works at all
    • If possible, plug in an external USB mouse.
    • If neither the USB mouse nor the touchpad shows a cursor or movement, test the mouse on another PC. If it also does not work there, the device may need to be replaced.
    • Some devices need a specific driver to work; when testing on another PC, ensure the correct driver for that device is installed.
    1. Update mouse/touchpad drivers via Windows Update
    2. In the search box on the taskbar, type check for updates, then select Check for updates from the results.
    3. Under Windows Update, select Check for updates and install any offered updates, including optional driver updates.
    4. Restart the PC and check if the cursor appears.
    5. Update or reinstall the touchpad driver in Device Manager
    6. In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select Device Manager.
    7. Look under Mice and other pointing devices and Human Interface Devices for the touchpad or mouse entry.
    8. To update the driver:
      • Double-click the device name.
      • Go to the Driver tab and select Update Driver, then follow the prompts.
    9. If updating does not help, reinstall the touchpad:
      • In Device Manager, right‑click the touchpad device under Mice and other pointing devices or Human Interface Devices and uninstall it (do not delete the driver software if prompted, unless instructed by the device manufacturer).
      • Restart the PC. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically from Windows Update.
    10. If the touchpad still does not work
    • If updating and reinstalling the touchpad driver do not restore the cursor, contact the device manufacturer for further hardware-specific diagnostics or repair, as the touchpad hardware may be faulty.
