    Hi George Williams,

In addition to the steps already suggested below, you can also try the following:

Step 1: Reset the Camera app

Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Locate Camera, select the three dots, choose Advanced options, then select Reset. After resetting, open the Camera app again and check if the error still occurs.

Step 2: Reinstall the external webcam in Device Manager

Open Device Manager, expand Cameras (or Imaging devices), right‑click the external webcam, and select Uninstall device. Restart the PC, then reconnect the webcam so Windows can reinstall it automatically.

Step 3: Test the webcam on another computer

If possible, connect the Onn 4K webcam to a different computer to check whether it works there. If it works on another device, this points to a Windows configuration issue on the current PC. If it does not work on another device either, the webcam itself may be faulty.

Step 4: Check for security software blocking camera access

Some antivirus or privacy tools can block external webcams. If such software is installed, temporarily disable camera protection and test again.

*Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off antivirus protection. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.

Please let me know the results of these steps so we can determine the next appropriate troubleshooting action.

Error 0xA00F4243 usually means the camera is busy in another app or the computer is blocking access to it.

Follow these steps in simple order:

    1. Close apps that might use the camera
      1. On the taskbar, right‑click an empty area and choose Task Manager.
      2. In Processes, look for apps that might use the camera (for example: Zoom, Teams, Skype, browser windows with meetings open).
      3. Click each one and choose End task.
      4. Close the Camera app if it is open.
      5. Open the Camera app again and test.
    2. Turn camera access on in Settings
      1. Click Start (Windows icon).
      2. Click Settings (gear icon).
      3. Go to Privacy & security > Camera.
      4. Make sure Camera access is On.
        • If it is off and greyed out, an administrator must turn it on.
      5. Make sure Let apps access your camera is On.
      6. Scroll down and turn On the apps you want to use with the camera (for example Camera, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
      7. If using a browser or desktop app, make sure Allow desktop apps to access your camera is On.
    3. Check the physical camera
      1. If the Onn 4K webcam is external, unplug it from the USB port.
      2. Plug it back in firmly to a USB port directly on the computer (not through a hub if possible).
      3. If the webcam has a privacy cover or slider, open it so the lens is not blocked.
      4. Try the Camera app again.
    4. Check the driver (basic step)
      1. Click Start, type device manager, and open Device Manager.
      2. Find your webcam under Cameras or Imaging devices.
      3. Right‑click it and choose Update driver.
      4. Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
      5. Choose Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      6. Select USB Video Device and click Next.
      7. Close Device Manager and test the camera again.

If the error still appears after these steps, repeat step 1 to be sure no other app is using the camera, then test in a different app (for example, try the Camera app and then a browser meeting page) to see if it works in at least one place.
