To change the Legal Name on the Microsoft Learn profile so it matches the identification used for certification exams, update it directly in the Learn profile settings and, if required, contact Credentials Support.
- Sign in to the Microsoft Learn account that will be used for the exam.
- Go to Settings in the Learn profile (profile icon in the top-right corner → Settings).
- Under Personal info, username, and URL, locate the Legal Name section and update the name so it matches the government-issued ID.
- Save the changes.
If the Legal Name cannot be edited (for example, there is a message instructing to contact support, or an exam is already scheduled/registered), follow the certification support path:
- Make sure you are signed in with the same Learn profile.
- Go to the Credentials Support page described under GitHub Certifications – To update your legal name.
- Follow the instructions there to update the Legal Name. If the page tells you to contact Certification Support, use the provided link and file a ticket with the Microsoft Credentials Support team so they can review and correct the Legal Name for exam purposes.
The Legal Name on Microsoft Learn must match the name on the government-issued ID presented at the exam appointment. If an exam is already registered, changing the Legal Name may require explicit approval from Microsoft support.
