I am trying to use WORD without Copikot. I select the Word app. The display loops. I am not interested in using Copilot. I am retired and want to type something. I do not need any frills. So please make it easier to bypass Copilot. Artificial intelligence is still very artificial

If you buy Office 2024 with Outlook or without Outlook, Copilot is not included. Plus, it's a one-time cost with no subscription fees.

John's suggestion to purchase and use Office 2024 with Outlook is a good one.

If you are using Microsoft 365, switch to Microsoft 365 classic.

Yes, you need to tell Microsoft that you want to cancel and let them convince you to stick with the “Classic” plan because you really do not need the screaming goats (video).

To use Word without Copilot and just type normally, disable Copilot in Word on the Windows device and then restart Word. Copilot will be turned off and Word will work as a regular word processor.

Follow these steps in Word on Windows:

    1. Open Word.
    2. Go to File > Options.
    3. In the left pane, select Copilot.
    4. Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
    5. Select OK.
    6. Close Word completely, then reopen it.

This turns off Copilot in Word on that device. If Word is used on multiple devices, repeat these steps on each device. Copilot features will no longer be available, and Word can be used just for typing without AI assistance.

If the Copilot icon still appears but is dimmed and inactive, it can be ignored; it will not affect typing or cause loops once Copilot is disabled.

If Word is looping on startup even after Copilot is disabled, update Office to the latest version, because recent updates have removed intrusive Copilot logos and improved behavior.
