Unable to renew Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification after expiration – need assessment extension

Question

My Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification expired last month. I was planning to renew it through the assessment, but I missed the renewal window.

I would like to know if there is any possibility to get an extension or re-open the renewal assessment for my certification. I am still actively working with Power BI and want to maintain my certification status.

Please guide me on:

• Whether an extension for renewal is possible
• If not, what is the correct process to regain the certification (reassessment or full exam)

The renewal period is open for 180 days before your expiry date. The renewal window cannot be extended or reopened. There are no exceptions.

My certification expired. What happens now? If your certification expires, you must earn the certification again by passing the required exam(s).

An extension or re-opening of the renewal assessment after the certification has expired is not possible.

For Microsoft role-based and specialty certifications (such as Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate):

• Certifications are valid for one year from the date all requirements are completed.
• To prevent expiration, the certification must be renewed before the expiration date by passing the free online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn.
• The renewal assessment is available only in the six-month window before the certification expires.
• Once the certification has expired, it can no longer be renewed; the renewal assessment cannot be re-opened or extended.
• After expiration, the only way to regain the certification is to re-earn it by passing all required exam(s) again.

For your Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification, this means scheduling and passing the current required exam for that certification to regain it.
