Dear @sasha,
I’d like to clarify what happened to Flipgrid and what options may still be available to you.
Microsoft officially retired the standalone Flip (formerly Flipgrid) website and mobile apps in September 2024. Prior to the shutdown, users were given the opportunity to download their videos. Unfortunately, any Flipgrid content that was not downloaded by that deadline was permanently deleted from Microsoft’s servers and can no longer be recovered through Microsoft Support or Teams.
Because of this:
- Old Flipgrid videos are not accessible through Microsoft Teams, even if you still have access to the same school account.
Microsoft does not have a way to restore or retrieve deleted Flipgrid videos after the shutdown.
That said, there are still a few worthwhile places you can check, depending on how those videos were originally used:
- Former teacher or class owner If the videos were submitted as part of a class, the teacher may have downloaded or archived student submissions before Flipgrid was retired. This is often the most successful option.
- School cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive,...) Some schools enabled syncing or manual exports of Flipgrid videos. I recommend searching your school account for folders or video files (.mp4/.mov) from the time period you used Flipgrid.
- Learning Management System (LMS) If Flipgrid was used through Canvas, Google Classroom, Blackboard, or similar platforms, check old assignments. In some cases, the actual video file (not just the Flipgrid link) was stored there.
- School IT department While it’s a long shot this far past the shutdown, your school’s IT administrator may be able to confirm whether any institutional backups or archives exist.
I know this likely isn’t the outcome you were hoping for, and I truly wish I had better news. Please know that if the videos were not saved elsewhere before the September 2024 retirement, Microsoft is unable to recover them now.
Note: Please understand that my initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
Additionally, as other users have raised similar concerns and may not be aware of where to share their feedback, I hope this response helps clarify the situation and suggests a potential next step. Highlighting this information can make it more visible to others in the community who may be facing the same issue, making it easier for them to find guidance and contribute their feedback as well.
Thank you again for your time and for raising this important usability concern. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I look forward to your thoughts on this.
