    Dear @Anonymouse🐭,

    I hope you’re having a good day.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot and for explaining what you’ve already tried.

Please note that this forum is not official Microsoft Support. It’s a community where users help one another. I don’t have access to your account, device, or network settings, but I can help explain what’s most likely happening and guide you to the right next steps.

In simple terms, the “Connection timed out” message means that Minecraft Education is able to start and attempt a multiplayer connection, but the connection never reaches the host or relay service before it times out. From experience, this usually isn’t caused by the game itself, your account, or your device.

Even when normal internet access works and local antivirus or firewall checks look fine, Minecraft Education multiplayer depends on specific network traffic (including peer‑to‑peer/UDP communication). On school or managed networks, this traffic is often restricted by firewalls, proxies, or content filters. When that happens, the game just waits and eventually shows a timeout, exactly like in your screenshot.

If you’re on a school or organization network

Please contact your school’s IT or network administrator and let them know that Minecraft Education multiplayer is failing with a “Connection timed out” error. They may need to check whether the network allows the required Minecraft Education traffic and endpoints.

If you’re unsure who your administrator is, this article may help: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?

If the issue continues, or if IT confirms the network is open

The correct next step is to contact Minecraft Education Support directly: Minecraft Education Support Center

From there, you can either: Post in the “I have a technical problem” community section, or Use Submit a Request to open a support ticket for deeper troubleshooting

When contacting support, it helps to clearly mention:

    • The exact error: “Connection timed out”
    • That the game launches and signs in successfully
    • Whether you’re on a school network or home network
    • That you’ve already checked updates, firewall, and version compatibility
    • This will help the support team focus on the network connectivity side right away.

I know it’s frustrating after you’ve already checked so many things, but you’re on the right path. This is a common network‑level issue in Minecraft Education and involving IT and/or the Minecraft Education support team is the correct way forward.

I hope this information helps point you in the right direction. If you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. I’ll do my best to support you however I can.

Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.

    Warm regards,

For Minecraft Education, a “connection timed out” error when joining multiplayer is usually caused by the network blocking required endpoints or ports, even when general internet access works.

Because Minecraft Education is part of the Microsoft 365 education ecosystem, the environment must allow its online services and multiplayer traffic. The documented feature set assumes that the service can reach Microsoft’s education and Minecraft endpoints over the internet.

In this situation, the next step is to involve the school or organization IT admin and have them verify that the network, firewall, and any web filters are configured to allow Minecraft Education traffic for Microsoft 365 education tenants. If the device is managed (for example, joined to a school domain or using Windows 365 Business/Cloud PC), the admin also needs to confirm there are no Group Policies, security appliances, or DNS restrictions that block outbound connections for Minecraft Education.

If the problem continues after the admin has checked and opened the required access, use the official Minecraft Education support options for deeper, tenant‑level troubleshooting and to confirm service health.
