I have installed the official version (not preview) after 5.10.2021 release and the build number is still 10.0.22000.194. We need to start dividing Win10 vs. Win11 devices in Intune and Configuration Manager. How we should do that, because probably Windows 10 build will also grow in a future and to what then?

@Pavel yannara Mirochnitchenko Thanks for posting in our Q&A.

For this issue, I have consulted with windows team. Windows 10 will continue to support at least one release of Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025. So, the OS build of windows 10 will not increase unlimited.

Based on my understanding, windows 10 OS build number will not up to 22000. At least for now, OS build number 22000 is the standard that distinguishes Windows 10 from Windows 11.

    Thanks for understanding.

Awkward enought, but we will do with that "for now" (until a 11.nnnnn build is provided).

In the mean time, many "Microsoft applications" will show "wrong results" when displaying the current Windows version.

    For example,
    account.microsoft.com : What's your device using Windows ?
    Nom ASUSeric
    Édition OS Windows 10 Home
    Version 2009
    Version du système d’exploitation 10.0.22000.318

Hint: I suggest to the Microsoft team that when they will be in the process of "adding" "Windows 11" version "everywhere", they also prodive "condition / case statement" for displaying "version 12" as well (for future use ;-)).

    Best regards. Eric

There is no saying on how build numbers will be handled going forward. But for now you should be able to differentiate between 10 & 11 using OS caption device property.

    Hi there,

Windows 10 build will not increase unlimitedly. we cannot say about the nature of OS build but usually, when a new version of Windows is released the older version OS will not increase. You can compare this with Windows 7 & Windows 10.
