When I open a document in Excel it says "We're sorry, but Excel has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Excel will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now. I click "repair now" option and it still happens every time.

    Hello

If the repair continues to fail, consider doing a reinstall instead.

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, uninstall the Microsoft 365.

Restart the computer (don't skip this step).

    Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on Apps on the left.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

The built-in “Repair now” prompt is only doing a quick repair, which often does not fix this error. Use a full Online Repair of Microsoft 365 instead.

    Follow these steps on Windows:

    1. Close all Office apps (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
    2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    3. Find Microsoft 365 (or Office) in the list.
    4. Select the entry (three dots) > Modify.
    5. Choose Online Repair, then confirm and start the repair.
      • This fully reinstalls Office and replaces corrupted components.
      • It can take 15–30 minutes; do not cancel even if it seems slow.
    6. When it finishes, restart the PC.
    7. Open Excel first (without opening a file) and confirm it starts normally, then open the workbook.

If the error still appears after a full Online Repair, completely uninstall Office from Apps & Features/Installed apps, remove remaining Office folders and related registry keys as described in the referenced Q&A, restart the PC, and then reinstall Microsoft 365.
