Child linked to the wrong family group

Hi

I have a family group for which 3 members have joined perfectly fine. However the link to my sons didn’t work correctly, when I have tried to resend it’s saying he is already in a family group. I have contacted Microsoft via chat and they’ve told me he is linked to an account in my name with an email address I’ve never heard off. I can’t access that account so can’t remove my son from that family. Does anyone know how I can do this. I have paid for the family Microsoft 365 package but my son can’t access it and Microsoft haven’t been able to help me.

Thanks

    Hello Debs

I can see that your child account is showing as linked to a family group with email address you do not recognize, but it's in your name.

Have you ever created or used a different Microsoft account in the past? It could be an email belong to you that you no longer recognize.

Because only the organizer account can remove your child link with the stranger family group. Here are some practical solutions you can try:

    • You could reach out to the organizer and ask them to unlink the account
    • Or I suggest creating a new Microsoft account for your son and add that new account to your family group instead.

I hope this can help with your current situation, have a nice day.
