Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

First, make sure your system is fully updated: Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Install all available updates from there and restart your PC when prompted.

    If the issue still persists.

Do you have a VPN enabled? If so, try disabling it temporarily and see if that makes a difference. You can check by going to Settings > Network & Internet > VPN or looking for a VPN app running in the background.

In the meantime, if you haven’t already already:

Forget and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network:

    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
    • Find your current Wi-Fi network and click "Forget" next to it.
    • Restart your main router/modem, then reconnect to the Wi-Fi and enter the password again.

    Flush the DNS cache:

    • Press Start and search for CMD.
    • Right-click on Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”.
    • In the Command Prompt, type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each and wait:

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    netsh winsock reset

    • Restart your PC and check if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Error code 0x8004de44 when signing into Microsoft apps or OneDrive indicates that the connection is going through an authenticated proxy, which OneDrive and related sign-in components do not support.

To fix this on the new laptop:

    1. Check proxy settings and disable any authenticated proxy:
      • In Windows, open Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
      • Under Manual proxy setup, turn Use a proxy server off, or remove any proxy that requires sign-in.
      • Under Automatic proxy setup, turn off any configuration that points to an authenticated proxy if present.
      • If the device is managed by an organization, contact the IT admin to ensure it is not forced through an authenticated proxy.
    2. If the error persists specifically with OneDrive sign-in, reset the Windows Settings app profile and reinstall OneDrive:
      1. Go to Start and type Settings, but do not open the Settings app.
      2. In the pane that appears for Settings, select App settings.
      3. Scroll to the Reset section and select Reset.
      4. Uninstall the OneDrive app from Settings > Apps.
      5. Reinstall the OneDrive app from the Microsoft Store or from the official OneDrive installer, then sign in again.

These steps remove the unsupported authenticated proxy requirement and clear the local sign-in configuration that can cause 0x8004de44 on a new device.
