A Microsoft hybrid cloud storage solution that combines on premise hardware storage and cloud storage.
The subscription can only be canceled by someone who has the required owner/billing permissions; ownership cannot be changed through this channel.
To move forward:
- Verify who has cancel permissions
- For Azure subscriptions, only the subscription owner can cancel. An account administrator without the subscription owner role cannot cancel an Azure subscription. See Check your account type and confirm who is listed as subscription owner.
- If this is a Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft subscription, confirm who is the Billing account owner/contributor (for MCA) or Billing Administrator (for MOSA). Only those roles can cancel in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Ask the current owner/admin to cancel
- If the subscription is an Azure subscription, the subscription owner must follow the documented cancel process for that subscription type.
- If it is a Microsoft 365 for business subscription, the appropriate billing role must:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- In Billing > Your products, select the subscription.
- In Subscription and payment settings (or Billing settings for MCA), choose Cancel subscription.
- Select Cancel now or Cancel before the next renewal date, then confirm.
- If there is no cancel option
- For Microsoft 365 business subscriptions with an MOSA billing account and outside the grace period, the admin may only be able to turn off recurring billing so the subscription expires at the next renewal instead of renewing.
- If the subscription was purchased through a third party
- If the subscription was bought from a retailer (for example, Amazon, Best Buy) or via Google Play/Apple App Store, cancellation must be done through that provider’s support, not in the Microsoft portal.
- If the account in the console is not the purchasing account
- Sign in with the exact Microsoft account that originally purchased the subscription. If the wrong account is used, the subscription may appear active elsewhere even though a cancellation email was received for a different account.
If the correct owner/billing admin cannot see a way to cancel and the subscription still shows Active despite a prior cancellation email, that owner/admin should contact Microsoft support from the billing/admin portal for tenant-specific investigation.
