Authenticator app not working

I use to have authenticator app and used this often; now when I go to use the Authenticator app, it tells me it is not working

or something like this.

Try the following checks to get Microsoft Authenticator working again:

1. Make sure the app is unlocked
   • Open Microsoft Authenticator directly on the phone.
   • If it shows a lock screen or requires PIN/biometric, unlock it first, then try signing in again.
2. Check notifications
   • On the phone, open Settings → Notifications.
   • Ensure notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator and not set to “silent.”
   • If using SMS or email codes as backup, check those inboxes (including spam) in case the code arrived silently.
3. Update the app
   • Open the app store on the device.
   • Install any available update for Microsoft Authenticator. Older versions (more than 12 months old) are not supported.
4. Check network and VPN
   • Ensure the phone has internet access.
   • If on Wi‑Fi, try switching to mobile data (or vice versa).
   • Turn off Airplane mode if enabled.
   • If using a VPN, temporarily disconnect and try again.
5. Verify device date and time
   • In device Settings, ensure Date & Time are correct and set to automatic if possible.
6. Improve background operation
   • In Authenticator → Settings, turn off battery optimization for the app so it can sync and receive prompts reliably.
