My account states that the subscription expired today, but I paid for the annual subscription in September. It needs to be reinstated with a September expiration.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

When you sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services does the subscription show as active there, or still unpaid?

If active, please try these steps if you haven’t already:

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your subscription status.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

The subscription status and expiration date must be corrected through the Microsoft account and, if needed, Microsoft Support or the billing provider.

    1. Verify that the subscription is actually active
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Go to the Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to purchase the annual subscription.
      4. Under Microsoft 365, check whether it shows:
        • Has recurring billing with a future next charge date, or
        • Expires on [date].
      5. If it shows as expired even though payment was made in September, proceed to the next step.
    2. Confirm payment and billing details
      1. Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments.
      2. Sign in with the same account.
      3. Check for any errors on the payment method (expired card, declined payment, etc.).
      4. If there is an error, update the payment method and then restart an Office app to see if the subscription reactivates.
    3. If the subscription still shows as expired
      • If the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft and the account still shows the wrong expiration date after confirming payment, contact Microsoft Support so they can review the billing and correct the subscription status and end date.
      • If the subscription was purchased through a third party (retailer, OEM, app store), contact that provider’s billing support with proof of purchase so they can correct or reissue the subscription.

The expiration date cannot be changed locally in Office; it must be corrected on the subscription record associated with the Microsoft account or via the original seller.
