Word needs to be repaired?

Every time I try to open up Word or Excel, I get an error message that says

We're sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?

I always hit the Repair Now option, but it never does anything. This has been going on for months.

Restart your PC. If the problem remains, run an Online Repair; see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b .

Note that an Online Repair involves a reinstall of Office. Therefore, before you begin, make sure that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it.

Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

Kindly follow the steps provided by Q&A Assist. However, if the issue persists, I recommend reinstalling the Office app by following the steps below:

Press the Windows key + R, then type in:

    appwiz.cpl

    Then hit OK

Look for the Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 app > Right-click, then select Uninstall

Follow the prompts to uninstall your Office app.

Then reinstall your Office app by following the steps from the link below:

Use an Office Online Repair instead of the in-app “Repair now” prompt, which is often ineffective.

    Follow these steps on Windows:

    1. Close all Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    2. Open Settings from the Start menu.
    3. Go to Apps (or Apps > Installed apps on newer builds).
    4. Find Microsoft Office (or Microsoft 365 Apps) in the list.
    5. Select it, choose Modify.
    6. Select Online Repair, then choose Repair and let the process complete.

An Online Repair is more thorough and often reinstalls Office components, which typically resolves the recurring “Word has run into an error” message.

If the Online Repair does not resolve the issue, the next step is to completely uninstall Office from Apps & Features/Installed apps, restart the PC, and then reinstall Office from the Microsoft account services page associated with the subscription.
