AZ-801 is a role-based certification exam, so the associated certification must be renewed annually, not the exam itself.
Key points for the AZ-801 / Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification:
- The certification is valid for one year from the date it was earned.
- Renewal is done by passing a free, online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn; the original exam (AZ-801) is not retaken for renewal.
- Renewal is only possible in the 6-month window before the certification’s expiration date. It cannot be renewed after it has already expired.
- Once the renewal assessment is passed, the new expiration date is updated immediately in the Learn profile.
Since the exam was completed in August 2024, the associated certification will need to be renewed around one year from its award date. When it becomes eligible (within 6 months of expiry), a Renew button will appear under Certifications in the Learn profile, and the renewal assessment can be taken there.
Note: AZ-801 is currently scheduled to retire on September 30, 2026, but existing certifications still follow the standard annual renewal process until Microsoft changes the certification structure.
