After my laptop has been sitting for about 15 min I get an audio rendered error message and videos won't load unless I restart my laptop. Side note, spell check also has stopped working period. What to do.

The best first option would be to go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and reinstall (not update) the version of HD Audio drivers and Graphics drivers they provide.

If you have any difficulty locating that support page, click your Start Button, then just type msinfo and press Enter, please provide a screenshot of the resulting System Information window.

If that does not resolve the problem.

    A
What app are you using that this problem is occurring in?

    B

Click your Start Button, type winver and hit Enter

Please provide a screenshot of the resulting dialog.

Follow these steps to fix the recurring “audio renderer” error and restore sound reliability:

    1. Install all Windows updates
    • Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
    • If it shows Updates are available, select Install now.
    • After installation, restart the laptop and test audio and video playback.
    1. Restart to apply pending updates
    • Save work and close apps.
    • Select Start > Power.
    • If options like Update and restart or Update and shut down appear, choose one to apply audio‑related updates.
    1. Update or reinstall audio drivers
    • In the taskbar search box, type device manager and open it.
    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device (for example, Realtek or High Definition Audio Device) and select Update driver >
      • On Windows 11: Search automatically for drivers.
      • On Windows 10: Search automatically for updated driver software.
    • If no newer driver is found or the issue persists:
      • Right‑click the same device > Uninstall device.
      • Check Delete the driver software for this device / Attempt to remove the driver for this device.
      • Select Uninstall, then restart the laptop so Windows reinstalls the driver automatically.
    1. Try the generic Windows audio driver If the problem continues after reinstalling the vendor driver:
    • Open Device Manager again.
    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    • Right‑click the audio device > Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers >
      • Windows 11: Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
      • Windows 10: Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
    • Select High Definition Audio Device (the generic driver) and finish the wizard.
    • Restart and test.
    1. Restart Windows Audio services (if audio still fails after idle)
    • In the taskbar search box, type services and open it.
    • Find and restart these services (right‑click > Restart):
      • Windows Audio
      • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
      • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    • Ensure their Startup type is set to Automatic.

If the error still appears after 10–15 minutes idle, combine the generic audio driver (step 4) with the service restart (step 5), then test again. Spell‑check issues may also clear once updates and services are healthy, since they rely on core Windows components.
