Windows Media Player Legacy no longer retrieves song metadata

Windows Media Player Legacy no longer retrieves song titles, album names, track numbers, or album artwork. The online metadata service appears to have been removed. I still use WMP Legacy because it is lightweight and works well for organizing a large local music library. Without metadata lookup, it is difficult to correctly label and manage my music files. I am requesting that Microsoft restore the metadata service or provide a supported replacement so WMP Legacy can function properly again.

    Hi,

Please be aware that Microsoft doesn’t monitor requests posted here, since this is a community run by users and volunteers. That said, the metadata service was shut down last year, as far as I know. For Microsoft to consider restoring this feature, I always advise users to submit their requests through the proper channel. This allows requests to accumulate and gives Microsoft a basis to consider bringing the feature back. For now, you may upvote this feedback or submit your own request through the Feedback Hub app.

For reference, you can check this thread and for the workaround.
