Unable to log in using password

Hello there,

I am unable to log into my Microsoft account and Outlook Web using my password. I am able to reset my password successfully, however, when I try to login using the new password it will tell me "That password is incorrect for your Microsoft account". I have tried multiple times, on different days including waiting 24 hours between attempts and got the same result.

I am able to log into my account just fine using approval from the Outlook mobile app. I do not know why it doesn't work with the password and would like to have that option available to me.

    Sorry that you are still experiencing problems signing in with your password.

    Since you’re able to sign in using alternate contact methods, this indicates that your account is still active and that there are no issues with the account itself. Because you receive the error specifically when signing in with your password, this may be a temporary issue with Microsoft’s backend for your account, which should automatically resolve over time.


    As a final step, we can try the account recovery form.

    Even though the password reset process appears to work, the actual login continues to fail, which is unusual. Please try the account recovery form at https://account.live.com/acsr.

    This is a more thorough identity verification process than a standard password reset.

    Note: Turn off two-factor authentication before using the account recovery form. The account recovery form can only be used if two-step verification is not turned on.

    Could you please try signing in to your Outlook account using an incognito (InPrivate) browser window?

    On Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an incognito window, then go to https://outlook.live.com/mail/ and attempt to sign in with your Outlook email address.


    If you are able to sign in, please try clearing your browsing history, cache, and cookies.

    And, you can also try connecting your device to a different Wi‑Fi network, such as a mobile hotspot, and then check if you can sign in normally.

    Alternatively, go to https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage (Security Settings Page) in your Microsoft account and enable two-factor authentication.
