    1

    Open Word.

At the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your subscription then recognised correctly.

    2

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, do you find an Office licence or subscription on your account there and if that is a subscription, check the expiry date listed on your subscription, is that listed correctly.

Follow these steps to get Word working again when it suddenly stops opening documents and behaves as if it is no longer available, even though a license exists:

    1. Confirm activation and account
      • Open any Office app that still starts (for example Excel or PowerPoint).
      • Check the title bar for messages like Unlicensed Product or Non-commercial use / Unlicensed Product.
      • If such a message appears, sign in with the same account that was used to purchase or activate Microsoft 365/Office. If the wrong account is used, Office shows “We couldn't find any Office products.”
    2. Run an Online Repair of Office
If Word shows errors such as “Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly” and the built‑in “Repair now” does not fix it, perform a full Online Repair:
      • Close all Office applications.
      • In Windows Settings, go to Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features).
      • Find the Office/Microsoft 365 installation, choose Modify, then select Online Repair and start the repair.
      • Online Repair may effectively reinstall Office, so ensure the Office product is associated with the correct Microsoft account beforehand.
    3. Try opening the file again
After Online Repair completes and activation is confirmed with the correct account, restart the computer and try opening the Word file again from within Word (File > Open) rather than double‑clicking it in File Explorer.

If the problem persists only with a specific document, check whether that file is blocked or marked read‑only by Windows (right‑click > Properties, clear Read-only and click Unblock if present), then reopen it.
