Your feedback is completely valid, and it is clear that this update has significantly disrupted the way your team collaborates on tasks. To provide some context, as part of a major Planner update that began rolling out in February 2026, the legacy on task comments in basic plans were replaced with a new Task chat feature that uses a Teams style messaging experience directly within the task card. As a result, previous task comments are no longer displayed on the task card itself. Instead, a link is provided that opens the plan's group mailbox in Outlook, where historical comments can still be reviewed. In addition, the notification behavior has also changed, as alerts are now only sent to users who are specifically @mentioned rather than being broadcast to everyone who previously commented on a task. It is worth noting that premium plans are not affected by this change at this time.
