A folder is missing from my Inbox. I've searched each of the folders there and it hasn't been misplaced. I am using Outlook on a Macbook

Hi Kairen Kemp,

I’m sorry to hear that one of your folders has gone missing. I know how stressful it can be when organized information suddenly disappears, especially when you've already done a manual search through your other folders.

Since you are using Legacy Outlook for Mac, there are a few specific places where folders can "hide" or become desynced. Please try these steps to locate or recover the folder:

1. Verify Folder Visibility (IMAP/Exchange)

If your account is set up via IMAP or Exchange, the folder might still exist on the server but has been "unsubscribed" or hidden in the Mac interface.

  • Log in to your email account via a Web Browser (e.g., Outlook.com or your provider’s webmail).
  • If the folder is visible on the web but not on your Mac, go back to Outlook on your Mac.
  • Right-click your Inbox (or the account name) and select Properties.
  • Click on the General tab and select Empty Cache.
  • Note: This will force Outlook to re-sync with the server. It may take a few minutes for your folders to reappear.

2. Search via the "Move" Tool

This is a "trick" to find where a folder might be nested if it was accidentally moved.

  • Select any random email in your Inbox.
  • Click the Move button in the top ribbon and select Copy to Folder…
  • In the search box that appears, type the exact name of your missing folder.
  • If the folder appears in the results, the path listed next to it will tell you exactly which folder it is currently hidden inside.

3. Check "Hidden" Folders in the Sidebar

Sometimes the sidebar is collapsed or certain folders are hidden by a filter.

  • Go to the View menu at the top of your Mac screen.
  • Ensure Sidebar is checked.
  • Make sure you aren't in "Filtered" view (look for a "Clear All" or "X" button at the top of your message list).

Please let me know if any of these steps help you locate the folder. If it is still missing after checking the webmail version of your account, we may need to look into Time Machine backups or more advanced recovery.

Best regards,
