Dear Microsoft, there has been problems with getting off the online game, LETTER GARDEN, by Masque Publishing played on AOL.

Many players are experiencing these problems and most of them are playing on AOL. I might add that man players of this game are serious players and want the problems fixed ASAP! I, myself, have sent MANY emails to Masque Publishing and AOL. AOL DOESN'T TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEMS AND ALWAYS DIRECTS PLAYERS BACK TO MASQUE! I also might interject that many other players have emailed Masque besides me. Recently, it seems that the issues got fixed but another player told me just last night he got kicked off L.G. at Level 24. Not good! My reoccurring problem is this: In the middle of playing L.G. a white screen will pop up. It says, "This page is having a problem." Try coming back to it later. You could also:

  • Open a new page
  • Refresh the page Error code: Out of memory Then there is a black box with white lettering that says REFRESH I hit the REFRESH button, and it does take me right back to L.G. BUT, the game I was playing is lost and I have to start ALL OVER with a brand-new game!! I have to say that I am "computer illiterate!!" Computer for Dummies wouldn't help me!! LOL!! I am a disabled senior citizen, mostly homebound and play LETTER GARDEN to keep my mind sharp and to socialize with friends. CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR US AND OR INVESTIGATE WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING IT!
  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. Any questions, please ask! Sincerely, [Moderator's note: PII Removed], an AVID PLAYER OF LETTER GARDEN!! <mod: PII removed>

    Hi Sandy Ginter,

I’m sorry this keeps interrupting your game. The “This page is having a problem - Error code: Out of memory” message usually points to compatibility issues between AOL’s browser environment and the game rather than a Windows setting by itself.

At this point, here are some possible checking steps that you can try:

    1. Open the game directly in Microsoft Edge instead of through AOL, if possible.
    2. Test the game in an InPrivate window in Edge (Settings and more > New InPrivate window). InPrivate starts a clean browsing session and removes temporary site data when all InPrivate windows are closed.
    3. In Edge, go to Settings > System and performance > Performance, then add the game site under Always keep these sites active.
    4. Repair Microsoft Edge from Windows - go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.

Finally, I understand that you’ve been redirected back and forth between AOL and Masque Publishing Support, which must be frustrating. To be transparent, my role as a forum moderator here, is limited to providing guidance on Microsoft-related issues, and since this does not appear to be related to Microsoft based on the information you provided, I want to avoid offering any inaccurate or misleading advice.

That said, if you continue to experience the issue across multiple browsers after trying all the suggested steps, the next best option would still be to contact AOL/Masque Publishing Support. When reaching out, I strongly recommend including all the evidence you’ve gathered (such as screenshots, error codes, and the list of browsers you’ve tested) to help them better understand and investigate the issue more effectively.

Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

The error message “This page is having a problem… Error code: Out of memory” while playing an online game in a browser usually indicates a browser or page-loading issue, not something Microsoft can directly fix on the game or AOL side.

Based on similar webpage issues, the most effective steps on Windows 10 are:

    1. Clear the browser cache and temporary files
      • In Internet Explorer (or Internet Explorer–based browsers):
        1. Press Alt once to show the menu bar.
        2. Select Tools > Delete Browsing History (or press Ctrl+Shift+Del).
        3. Check Temporary Internet files (and optionally other cache items).
        4. Select Delete.
        5. Close and reopen the browser, then try the game again.
      • Clearing cached files helps when pages become “messed up,” freeze, or fail to display correctly, which can include white screens and error messages.
    2. Use Microsoft Edge instead of Internet Explorer/AOL’s built‑in browser
      • Internet Explorer is no longer supported and has been disabled on many Windows 10 systems. If AOL is using an older or IE‑based browser engine, it is more likely to run into memory and compatibility problems.
      • Open Microsoft Edge and try accessing the LETTER GARDEN game directly from the game’s website (if possible) rather than inside the AOL client. Edge is more modern and better at handling complex web games.
    3. Keep Windows 10 and Microsoft Store apps updated
      • In Windows 10, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates, and install any available updates.
      • If using a Microsoft Store version of a browser or AOL app, open Microsoft Store, select See more > Downloads and updates > Get updates to ensure the app is current.
    4. Close and reopen the app or browser when issues occur
      • If the game page shows “Out of memory,” close the browser or AOL window completely, then reopen it and return to the game. This frees memory and can reduce the chance of repeated crashes.

If the problem persists after clearing cache, updating Windows, and using a modern browser like Microsoft Edge, the remaining issues are likely on the game provider’s or AOL’s side (for example, how the game manages memory or sessions). In that case, continuing to report the behavior (including when it happens and what browser is used) to Masque Publishing and AOL is necessary, as only they can change how the game itself runs.
