Found a fix, under User Accounts, clicking reset security policies seems to have fixed the issue. Also, it fixed the issue of not being able to change the screensaver timeout. I haven't been able to track down the specific policy caused the problem in the first place, but this works for now.
how do I turn off the autolock in windows 8?
After inactivity of around 1 minute in windows 8 the computer locks itself... I have to reenter my password. I have tried everything, power options, personalization, and it's still not taking it off. All of the features that relate to turning off the auto lock are off too. Help please!!

2012-11-12T04:35:28+00:00 Hi,
From the Desktop - Charms Menu - Settings - Personalization - Screen Saver
or use WinKey + I (from the Desktop)
Or Right Click Desktop - Personalize - Screen Saver
change time as needed or 0 for off - uncheck On resume, display logon screen - Apply
/ OK.
Hope this helps.

2012-11-12T05:10:37+00:00 Thanks Spirit MS MVP but this is not it. Tried this already, I have no screen saver, my computer just locks by itself displaying the screen when the computer is first turned on.

2012-11-12T05:26:44+00:00 Hi,
Did you uncheck the box there?
In Power Options - on left click Require a Password on Wakeup - be sure Don't require
is ticked.
If those are set properly then possibly a Startup Program or antivirus/antispyware/security
program is causing the issue.
WinKey + X - Task Manager - StartUp tab (or right click taskbar - Task Manager.

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.
From the DeskTop - WinKey + X - Command Prompt (Admin)
SFC /scannow
(space between C and / )
Then run run CheckDisk - chkdsk /r (the /r includes /f parameter checks)
WinKey + X - Command Prompt (Admin)
chkdsk /r
(space between k and / )
Or run CheckDisk from within Windows 8 :

2012-11-16T19:15:19+00:00 It does this on all 3 of my Windows 8 machines, haven't found a solution yet. I have disabled the screen saver and set the display to never turn off in power options. I want the lock screen to show, I just don't want the computer to lock until I tell it to.
