Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
I am going to restate the problem to verify the issue. This is a common Microsoft 365 issue when a domain was previously attached to another Microsoft tenant - maybe as a trial or by a third party serv ice like GoDaddy. The good news: this is usually fixable, but you must reach the correct Microsoft support team, because automated systems cannot release the domain.
When you try to add your new domain to Microsoft 365, Microsoft sees it as already associated with another tenant.
Typical error messages include:
- “Domain already exists in another organization”
- “This domain has already been added”
- “We can’t verify this domain because it’s being used elsewhere”
And as you said, GoDaddy cannot remove it because only Microsoft controls tenant/domain ownership inside Microsoft 365.
What you need Microsoft to do
You need a:
- Domain release / domain takeover / tenant disassociation
Microsoft support can:
- Verify you own the domain
- Remove it from the old tenant
- Allow you to attach it to your new Microsoft 365 tenant
The fastest path since you do NOT have a working Microsoft 365 login under the new domain, is to use the public support channels below.
Use the Microsoft 365 business support number for your country.
For the US: 1-800-865-9408
When the AI/phone system answers:
- Say: “Domain takeover support”
- Or: “Existing tenant owns my domain”
- Or repeatedly say: “Agent” / “Representative”
Do NOT say:
- “email issue”
- “login problem”
If you use those terms, the AI voice recognition will route you back into self-service loops.
Recommended: Before calling support
Make sure you have:
- Your GoDaddy receipt
- Access to GoDaddy DNS management
- Ability to add TXT records
- Screenshot of the Microsoft error
Microsoft may ask you to prove ownership by adding a TXT record to DNS.
